Secure Embedded Linux Operating System
A configurable, minimal-footprint Linux operating-system platform designed for embedded products, secure gateways and application workloads where operating-system security, auditability and controlled updates are important.

The challenge
General-purpose operating-system images may contain components and drivers that a specific product does not need, increasing the maintenance burden and potential attack surface. Product developers may also need better visibility into software components, controlled configuration and a dependable update process.
The solution
A configurable operating-system build approach that can include only the components required for a defined application. The described capabilities include source-built OS components, security hardening informed by recognized guidance, secure boot, root-filesystem integrity controls, restricted command-line options, auditable software-component information and secure/fail-safe over-the-air updates, subject to implementation and validation.
How it works
The target hardware or hypervisor, application requirements, security profile and lifecycle needs are defined. An OS image is configured for that environment, and its components, software bill of materials, update process and security controls are reviewed and tested. Supported hardware, compatibility, threat-model coverage and assurance level must be confirmed for each deployment.
